The Knights Templar is affiliated with the Freemasons. In some countries, it is a seperate order. The members of the order have to be Master Masons of a Christian faith or defenders of the Christian faith. Some people claim that the Knights Templar were protectors of the Ark of the Covenant.

The earliest written copies of Masonic ritual states that they found the Ark of the Covenant hidden in a cave under the site of King Solomon's temple.

The Freemasons is a fraternal organization that arose in the late 16th to early 17th century. There membership today are estimated to be 5 million.

What is even more interesting is that many presidents were Freemasons as stated below:

George Washington
James Monroe
Andrew Jackson
James Polk
James Buchanan
Andrew Johnson
James Garfield
William McKinley
Theodoe Roosevelt
Howard Taft
Warren Harding
Franklin Roosevelt
Harry Truman
Gerald Ford

Apraham Lincoln did apply for membership, but later withdrew his application.

President Reagan was involved in masonic functions and was an honorable member of the Imperial Council of the Shrine, but is not a Freemason.

President George Bush was also referred to as a Freemason. He took his oath of office by swearing in on the George Washington Bible which belongs to St. Johns Lodge in New York City, but he was not a Freemason.
