Did Jesus Exist?

>> Saturday, August 28, 2010

One of the big atheistic arguments against Christianity is the claim that Jesus never existed. You can find these arguments at this site: www.atheists.org/christianity/didjesusexist.html. The most influential person that ever lived was Jesus Christ. If Jesus never existed, then the entire world and most religions are based on a lie about a man that never even existed. That is a whole lot harder for me to believe. What are the chances of this kind of lie being so convincing that most religions would based their teachings on it. Every religion talks about him in one form or another and the majority of the world are religious. This type of statement would be along the same line as the people who believe that the earth is flat. You can visit the flat earth website here: www.alaska.net/~clund/e_djublonskopf/Flatearthsociety.htm. My guess is that they have about one member. The atheists on their website gives their Old Testament evidence which consists of one paragraph. It is probably because they never took the time to read the Old Testament because it is filled with evidence for Jesus. They say, “Despite the claims of Christian apologists, there is absolutely nothing in the Old Testament (OT) that is of relevance to our question, apart from the possible fact that some prophets may have thought that an ‘anointed one’ (a rescuer king or priest) would once again assume the leadership of the Jewish world.” This quote demonstrates that they have never actually read the Old Testament. They make other statements such as, “It is clear that the gospels of Matthew and Luke could not possibly have been written by an eye-witness of the tales they tell.” They go on to make other crazy claims. Do they also claim that Napoleon never lived? Do they claim that Aristotle and Socrates never lived? Do they also claim that other historical people never lived? Of course not, because like I said before, Atheist only hate Christianity.

I'm an atheist (which should not be capitalized, because it's not a religion), and I don't "hate" Christianity, I simply realize that it is just as "true" as all the other religions that YOU dismiss as silly myths.

Do you "hate" Islam, Buddhism, Shinto, Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, or Rastafarianism? Or do you simply not believe their claims?

*"If you believe in [the Christian] God, you have chosen to reject Allah, Vishnu, Budda, Waheguru and all of the thousands of other gods that other people worship today. It is quite likely that you rejected these other gods without ever looking into their religions or reading their books. You simply absorbed the dominant faith in your home or in the society you grew up in.

In the same way, the followers of all these other religions have chosen to reject [your] God. You think their Gods are imaginary, and they think your God is imaginary.

In other words, each religious person on earth today arbitrarily rejects thousands of gods as imaginary, many of which he/she has never even heard of, and arbitrarily chooses to "believe" in one of them."

Like the Bible, the Koran also claims to be the "Word of God" (as a matter of fact, it states that it is the FINAL word of God, and supersedes all other "holy" books). Do you believe that? Why not? After all, it's written in a holy book, so it MUST be true.

Mormons believe that in 1823 Joseph Smith found a lost testament of Jesus' life in North America on a set of golden plates that only he could read and translate. These were given to him by the Angel Nephi, (but later versions of this account the heavenly messenger's name is changed to Moroni). When his skeptical wife threw away the "holy" plates, and asked him to reproduce their "message" he was unable to remember what he had claimed, so he magically found a new set of plates, that had different messages than the originals. Do you believe that? Why not? It's written in a holy book, so it MUST be true.

Did King Arthur exist? There's lots of books about him, more than there are about Jesus' alleged life and death. But any learned person knows he's a figure of myth, stories told to make a point.

Did Robin Hood exist? There are plenty of stories about him too, but we know he wasn't real.

There are a lot of books about Santa Claus as well, and we continually LIE to our own children about him (notice how similar he is to the Christian God - he sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake, he knows if you've been bad or good, so be good or he'll send you to hell. Because he's all-powerful, all-forgiving, all-benevolent, and loves you so much) - if you can get your kids to believe in Santa, it'll be much easier to sell them on an invisible man who lives in the sky, that is genuinely concerned with trivialities like making sure your favorite sports team wins (who does God root for when Notre Dame plays Boston College, by the way?), seeing to it that you're not late for work after not giving yourself enough time to get there, removing stains from housewives blouses regardless of the fact they used soap in the wash; while simultaneously showing no care, compassion, or concern for the prayer requests of amputees, cancer patients, victims of MS, MD, or HIV.

To quote Stephen F. Roberts:

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

Actually, I capitalized Atheist because it is a religion. Atheism falls under secular humanism which was declared a religion by the supreme court.
http://vftonline.org/Patriarchy/definitions/humanism_religion.htm

I don't hate the people who practices Islam and Buddhism etc., but I do hate false teaching. The people are just deceived just like you who thinks that there isn't a God. I only dismiss their theology because of the lack of evidence to support their religion. Only one religion can be true. Either Christianity is true, or Atheism is true, or Islam is true, or maybe none of them are true. But, they can't all be true. One of us is right, and the rest are wrong. You have to look at truth based on facts, and I believe Christianity has the facts. I believe my religion is true as you believe that your religion (Atheism) is true but like I said, only one can be true.

Before I became I Christian, I did study many other religions. I read the Koran, the Book of Morman and many other religious literature. Have you ever read the Bible? Christianity is unique compared to all the other religions in the world.

Many people have chosen to reject my God. Even in the Bible, many people rejected God. People crucified the Messiah on a cross so I am not doubting that people will reject God. It is my job as a Christian to point people to Jesus. I am interested in truth, not blind faith. That is why Christianity is supported by science (not evolutionary science, but real science), and that is why the Bible has more evidence than any other spiritual book in the world.

The Bible says, "Wide is the rode to destruction and many will go in by it, but narrow is the way to salvation, and few will find it".
There will always be more people who will reject God. Only the chosen will be accepted into the Kingdom of God. The ultimate question is, "Will you be one of them?"

"Like the Bible, the Koran also claims to be the "Word of God" (as a matter of fact, it states that it is the FINAL word of God, and supersedes all other "holy" books). Do you believe that? Why not? After all, it's written in a holy book, so it MUST be true."

Again, you need to look at the evidence. Many other books claim to be the "Word of God". So what is your complaint anyway? Are you having a hard time understanding how one religion can be more correct over another? Are you having a hard time understanding that one religion is true, while the rest of the religions in the world are false? Is that is why you are an Atheist? Because you can't believe in one religion, so you reject them all?

Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life, and nobody comes to the father except through me."

Jesus is the way to truth, and the rest of the religions in the world are created by man. God chose only one race to give his "Word" to and that was the Jews.

So you really make no sense to be honest. You are just spouting out nonsense. Here is my understanding of you. You are someone who doesn't understand religion so you dismiss it completely. You compare religions to Santa Clause which shows how ignorant you are. I can gurantee that you have never studied any religion in your life. Millions of people believe in God because God has written his laws into every mans heart. You can also see God in Creation. However, many people fall victim to lies and get deceived as you have.
Arguing with you logically isn't going help because you aren't interested in knowing the truth. You have just been hanging around with the Atheist to long that you won't even consider the possibility that your complex system was created by intelligence.

By the way, you shouldn't be arguing about which religion is true because you don't believe in any of them. You first need to learn that there is a God who created you because your system is to complex to have come into existence by chance.

If you are interested in truth, start by reading the Bible. You might find it quite fascinating.
